Sailing has been a fundamental part of the
world’s advancements in civilization. Thousands of years ago sail
boats were used to move people and cargo from one location to
another. They were also used to fish the open waters to provide
food for the people of the villages. Today millions of people still
sail the waters of the ocean and many lakes. However, the majority
of these people now sail for recreational purposes.
A sail boat is a boat that uses a cloth like material to catch the
wind. When the pressure from the wind hit’s the sail it causes the
boat to move forward. The person steering the vessel must be very
knowledgeable about how to operate the ship. If the wind changes
position the sails will have to be adjusted too. This enables to
vessel to continue moving through the water.
There are many different things a person needs to know before
taking a sail boat out on open waters. Sailing is not just about
raising the sails to catch the wind. The person will also need to
know how to tie several distinctive knots and know how to get the
boat to turn even when the wind hasn’t. Many people find that
taking classes, or hiring an instructor, is a good way to learn how
to sail. Unfortunately just as many people believe they can learn
on their own. These people usually end up in trouble while out on
the water.
